When Foreigner were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on October 19 in Cleveland, Ohio, Sammy Hagar delivered the induction speech. Hagar has now released the video below, explaining why it took him an entire three weeks to write his speech.
In the video, Hagar reveals, “I’d been writing that speech for three weeks. I changed the speech, probably 20 times, even right till when I was standing backstage getting ready to go on. I’m talking about, she goes, ‘You’ve got three minutes.’ I kept reading it over again. I said, ‘Take this part out. If you put it up, I might say it, I don’t wanna say it.’ So I re-edit it one more time.”
Sammy adds, “I was a wreck, you know. I really wanted to do ’em proud. When it was done, I was so damn relieved. When I got on stage to sing ‘Hot Blooded’, I was, like, ‘Yes! That’s what I do.'”
Watch Sammy play a legendary Foreigner hit at this year’s 2024 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction when a three-hour special airs January 1 on ABC. The special will be available for streaming January 2 on Hulu and Disney+.
