Formed in 2003 in Towson, Maryland, All Time Low began as a group of high school friends playing pop punk covers before evolving into a nationally recognized band with a fiercely loyal fanbase. The lineup—Alex Gaskarth on vocals and rhythm guitar, Jack Barakat on lead guitar, Zack Merrick on bass, and Rian Dawson on drums—has remained intact since their earliest days. The band got its name from lyrics in a New Found Glory song and initially signed with the indie label Emerald Moon, releasing their first EP The Three Words to Remember in Dealing with the End in 2004.
Their full-length debut The Party Scene followed in 2005, but it was 2007’s So Wrong, It’s Right on Hopeless Records that launched them into the mainstream. That album included the breakout hit “Dear Maria, Count Me In,” which would go on to achieve Platinum status. They followed that success with 2009’s Nothing Personal, debuting at number four on the Billboard 200 and solidifying their place in the pop-punk revival movement. All Time Low kept the momentum going with Dirty Work (2011), their major label debut on Interscope, before returning to Hopeless for Don’t Panic (2012), which combined the polished production of their mainstream run with the raw energy of their earlier work.
By 2015, Future Hearts became the band’s highest-charting album, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200 and topping the UK Albums Chart. Their next album Last Young Renegade (2017) marked a stylistic shift, incorporating more synth-pop and alternative influences. In 2020, the band dropped Wake Up, Sunshine, which featured their highest-charting single to date, “Monsters,” featuring Blackbear. That song reached number one on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart and stayed there for 18 weeks, becoming one of the genre’s most dominant hits of the decade. Their most recent release, Tell Me I’m Alive, arrived in 2023 and reflected their continued evolution while staying true to the infectious energy they built their name on.
Over the course of their career, All Time Low has been nominated for and received several accolades, including wins at the Alternative Press Music Awards and the Rock Sound Awards. Their ability to constantly stay relevant in a changing musical landscape speaks to their adaptability and strong connection with fans. In addition to their studio albums, the band released two live albums, Straight to DVD (2010) and its sequel in 2016, which document their rise and growing reputation for high-energy performances.
Beyond their chart success and studio output, All Time Low’s legacy is also tied to their relentless touring schedule. They’ve performed at major festivals like Warped Tour, Reading and Leeds, and Soundwave, while also headlining global tours. The band has opened for heavy hitters like Fall Out Boy and Green Day but built their own empire through DIY touring early on.
Each member has also pursued other creative ventures. Gaskarth and Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus formed the duo Simple Creatures, while Rian Dawson has become a sought-after producer. Despite the individual pursuits, All Time Low has stayed grounded in the collaborative dynamic that made them a mainstay in alternative rock circles. Their ability to balance catchy hooks with a consistently youthful energy has made them beloved across multiple generations of fans.
