Phil Collins May Be Finally Working on New Music Again

Is Phil Collins ready to release his first new music in more than 20 years? Producer and manager Simon Napier-Bell confirms that the ex-Genesis frontman has been updating the studio at his home by Lake Geneva.

Napier-Bell interviewed Collins for an upcoming documentary on London’s famous Marquee Club live music venue. “He was in top form, full of wicked stories – hugely fun,” Napier-Bell said in a social media post.

Genesis’ stops at the Marquee dated back to the band’s earlier Peter Gabriel era. But Collins fronted Genesis for a key show there, as well.

Genesis made a memorable appearance there in September 1982, despite having already risen to platinum-selling fame. They were billed as the Garden Wall in a secret warm-up show before a multi-night stand at the Hammersmith Odeon during the Three Sides Live Tour. Recordings from the show were widely bootlegged.

‘We’re Going to Hear Some New Music’

News of a return to recording is intriguing since Collins’ most recent new music dates back to the soundtrack for Disney’s 2003 film Brother Bear. His last solo album of original material was 2002’s Testify, which Collins followed up with a cover album of R&B standards in 2010 called Going Back.

“He’s just had his studio revamped,” Napier-Bell added. “For sure, before too long we’re going to hear some new music.”

Meanwhile, look for an expanded 30th-anniversary edition of Collins’ fifth solo album, 1993’s U.K. chart-topping hit Both Sides, in September. Dubbed Both Sides (All the Sides), the box set looks back at a project that arrived two years after Collins’ final album with Genesis, We Can’t Dance.

Mick Fleetwood will headline the inaugural Maui Music & Food Experience, scheduled to take place from Sept. 5 through 7.

The three-day event will raise funds for the Hua Momona foundation, a non-profit organization that offers aid to those affected by the 2023 wildfires that devastated the Hawaiian island. Fleetwood himself is a longtime resident of Maui, and his restaurant, Fleetwood’s on Front Street, was destroyed in the blaze.

“Maui and the Lahaina community have been my home for several decades,” the drummer posted on social media at the time. “This is a devastating moment for Maui, and many are suffering unimaginable loss.”

“Our world moves so fast these days, it’s no wonder many people have forgotten about the devastation that took place here last summer and the crucial needs that still exist,” Gary Grube, founder of the Hua Momona Foundation, said in a recent press release. “This experience will support our ongoing efforts to provide food, housing and mental health resources to our fellow islanders and we invite everyone to join us for a weekend of music, food and unity as we honor the spirit of Maui and work towards a brighter future.”

The Maui Music & Food Experience will also feature the following artists: Billy Cox (Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys), Ron Artis II (participating in a special Jimi Hendrix set), Ronnie Baker Brooks, Wayne Baker Brooks, Keni Blue (participating in the Hendrix set), Bernard Fowler (Rolling Stones), Ernie Isley (Isley Brothers), Darryl Jones (Rolling Stones), Ivan Julian, Howard Levy, Ivan Neville, The Nicholas Tremulis 4, Charlie Sexton and Isaiah Sharkey, as well as local Maui musicians.

Complete List Of Dinosaur Jr. Albums And Songs

Dinosaur Jr. formed in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1984. Originally called Dinosaur until legal issues forced a change, the band was founded by guitarist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow, and drummer Murph (Emmett Patrick Murphy). Known for their distinctive fusion of punk rock noise and classic rock influences, Dinosaur Jr. became a pivotal group in the development of alternative rock and grunge music, particularly with their use of feedback, high volume, and Mascis’s melodic guitar solos.

The band’s major label debut, Green Mind (1991), marked their entry into a broader musical landscape and was followed by several successful albums including Where You Been (1993), which reached No. 50 on the Billboard 200, and Without a Sound (1994), which peaked at No. 44. Despite achieving significant critical acclaim, Dinosaur Jr. did not receive major awards during their early years but were widely recognized for their influence on the music scene, particularly in the alternative and indie rock genres.

Throughout their career, Dinosaur Jr. has released twelve studio albums, with their later albums like Beyond (2007) and Farm (2009) also charting well. Farm reached No. 29 on the Billboard 200, making it one of their highest-charting albums. The band has also released several live albums and compilations, further solidifying their status in the rock music world. Despite internal strife leading to Barlow’s departure in 1989 and his subsequent return in 2005, the original lineup remains active.

MIKE PORTNOY On His Return To DREAM THEATER – “I’m Not As Much Of A Control Freak As I Used To Be” (Video)

MIKE PORTNOY On His Return To DREAM THEATER -

Speaking with Chile’s Sonar FM, drum legend Mike Portnoy discussed his return to Dream Theater 13 years after he left the band. Check out the interview below.

Portnoy: “Personally, I think we’re just all older and wiser, more mellow. I am not as much of a control freak as I used to be; I’m a lot more easygoing, a lot more mellow. So, yeah, there’s the one side of the natural age of everybody just — we’re now in our 50s and 60s, and I think we’re just more mature and experienced. But the other side to that question is finding my place within this new chemistry and overseeing every area. And then when I left the band, they needed to take some of these areas and divide them up amongst themselves and have different people overseeing different areas.”

“Now that I’m coming back, I have to kind of see what’s comfortable. I have to very much respect that they’ve had 13 years without me and they may do things a certain way differently now.”

Dream Theater recently announced their 40th Anniversary Tour 2024 – 2025.The tour – presented as An Evening With Dream Theater – is the first outing since drummer Mike Portnoy’s return to the lineup joining vocalist James LaBrie, bassist John Myung, guitarist John Petrucci, and keyboardist Jordan Rudess.

The Evolution of AI Art: How AI Image Generators are Changing the Game

The Evolution of AI Art: How AI Image Generators are Changing the Game

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been making significant strides across various sectors, and the art world is no exception. Over the past decade, AI image generators have revolutionized how art is created, viewed, and appreciated. Among the myriad of AI tools that have emerged, free AI image generator Flow stands out as a game-changer.

Art and technology have always been intertwined, but the advent of artificial intelligence has taken this relationship to unprecedented levels. Let’s explore the history of AI art and see what the future holds for AI image generators and AI art.

The History of AI in Art

The first practical attempts to use computers in art started in the 1950s-60s. AARON, an AI program, was designed to produce original artwork.

During the 1970s and 1980s, artists began to explore the possibilities of algorithmic art, which involved using computer algorithms to generate visual patterns.

The discovery of fractals and chaos theory in the late 20th century added a new dimension to digital art. The Mandelbrot Set, a well-known fractal, became a source of fascination and a tool for creating visually stunning images. This AI art became a part of POP culture, inspiring singers, writers, manga creators, and comic book
writers.

AI art based on Mandelbrot Set fractal generated with Flow

In 2015, Google released DeepDream, which quickly gained popularity among artists and technologists, leading to a wave of psychedelic and otherworldly digital art.

Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) further revolutionized AI-generated art. In 2018, an AI-generated portrait titled “Edmond de Belamy,” created by the Paris-based collective Obvious using GANs, sold at Christie’s auction house for $432,500. This event marked a turning point, highlighting AI art’s growing acceptance and value in the mainstream art market.

But AI art did not stop there. Image generators powered by artificial intelligence stepped into our daily lives and are here to stay.

Flow: A New Era in AI Art and Image Generation

Initially, using AI tools and technologies to create art was expensive and accessible only to a few. The increasing accessibility of AI tools like Flow is making the creation of AI art available not only to well-known artists but to everyone. This inclusivity means that users can experiment with AI and incorporate it into their creative processes regardless of their technical expertise, artistic recognition, or financial status. This shift will likely lead to a more diverse and vibrant AI art scene, with contributions from many more artists and amateur creators from various backgrounds.

Launched in 2024, Flow is a free Midjourney alternative that has quickly become a prominent player in the AI art scene. Flow focuses on enhancing creativity rather than merely replicating existing styles. Its sophisticated algorithms and user-friendly interface have made it accessible to both professional artists and hobbyists, making the art creation process accessible to everyone.

Innovative Features of Flow

Flow distinguishes itself with several groundbreaking features:

1. The ease of use: The interface of the Flow is straightforward and intuitive. Users can realize their graphics by simply describing the image they’d like to create via text prompt or uploading the image they wish to generate via Flow.

2. Style choice: The user can create the image in many styles: Magic Style, Photoreal, 3D Style, Low Poly, Cyberpunk, Kawaii, Cartoon, Watercolor, and Ink Blot.

3. Design choice: Digital artists can create three types of images: full-render graphics, graphics with a transparent background (PNGs), or seamless patterns.

4. Seamless creative flow: Users can continue to design and alternate their flow-generated images by changing the style, adding new text prompts, and adding the image to a new Flow. This feature empowers artists to guide the AI towards their desired outcome, resulting in a more personalized and satisfying creative process.

5. Integration with Studio: Flow works seamlessly with Creative Fabrica Studio, a free online design tool. It makes integrating AI-generated images into your design workflow simple and fast.

6. Licensing: Images created with Flow come with a commercial and personal license, so users can use them for business projects and personal crafts!

How Users Leverage Flow for Their Daily Needs

AI-generated images are becoming increasingly integrated into our daily lives, influencing various aspects of both personal and professional realms. AI-generated visuals are omnipresent, from social media filters that enhance selfies to personalized marketing campaigns. Now, AI tools not only help us make art but also assist in daily tasks.

Mark is a social media manager at a small startup company. He uses Flow to generate visually compelling content tailored to specific demographics. He likes that Flow is fast and simple to use and is integrated with Studio, an online design suite that Mark uses to design his visuals with text overlays.

Maria, a middle school biology teacher, uses Flow to generate detailed diagrams, models, and intricate 3D cellular structures, making it easier for students to understand cell biology. In the Flow settings, she chooses full-render Photoreal images with bright colors to create impressive visuals, which helps her foster a more inclusive and dynamic learning environment.

Simona is an interior designer who uses Flow to create visual presentations of home decor projects for her clients. She likes how fast her workflow is and how easy it is to adjust the designs when clients want to change something. Simona uses seamless creative flow to adapt and improve her visuals according to the client’s needs.

AI-Generated Images in Unexpected Places

Flows’s impact extends beyond conventional art forms and social media imagery. For instance, AI-generated designs are increasingly being used in fashion. Designers utilize Flow to create unique fabric patterns. Additionally, AI art finds applications in video game design, where Flow helps create immersive environments and character designs.

The Impact of AI on Human Creativity

While critics argue that AI could diminish the value of human creativity, proponents believe that AI tools like Flow actually enhance human creativity. By automating repetitive tasks and suggesting novel ideas, AI frees artists to focus on their work’s conceptual and emotional aspects. This potential for AI to enhance and amplify human creativity is an exciting prospect for the future of art.

The evolution of AI in art is far from over. As technology advances, AI image generators like Flow will become even more sophisticated, offering unprecedented levels of customization and interactivity.

Conclusion

The history of AI in art is a testament to the enduring relationship between creativity and technology. AI’s journey in the art world has been marked by continuous innovation and transformation. From the early days of AARON to the sophisticated capabilities of Flow, AI has continually expanded the possibilities of artistic expression. With its unique features and user-centric approach, Flow is at the forefront of this revolution, enabling creators to explore new imaginative horizons and redefine their artistic practice.

As we move forward, the collaboration between humans and machines promises to unlock new frontiers in art and design, challenging our perceptions and enriching our cultural landscape. The journey of AI in art is far from over, and the next chapter will undoubtedly be as exciting and transformative as the last.

Former Jethro Tull members Martin Barre and Doane Perry guest on new Chris Herin single

Chris Herin, guitarist and keyboard player with US prog rockers Tiles, has enlisted the help of former Jethro Tull members Martin Barre and Doane Perry for his brand new single The Darkest Hour, and you can watch the new video below.

It’s taken from Herin’s upcoming debut solo album, Hiding In Plain Sight  which he will release through The Laser’s Edge label on November 1. The album is a personal look how Alzheimer’s disease affects families, following his father’s own ten-year struggle with the disease

Aside from the former Tull pair, the album, which has been produced by renowned producer Terry Brown, famed for his work on so many Rush albums, features a setellar cast list of guests including Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, Peter Frampton, Crown Lands pair Kevin Comeu and Cowdy Bowles, Tim Bowness, Michael Sadler (Saga), Colin Edwin, Kim Mitchell (Max Webster) and more…

“I’m honored to have worked with so many talented musicians and to witness these songs take shape under Terry’s watchful eye and unfailing ear,” says Herin. “His meticulous care and artistic commitment meant the unique characteristics of each performance influenced the music’s evolution and identity. I thank everyone involved for their distinctive contributions and for helping create a unified spirit of purpose in honor for those afflicted and affected by dementia. A portion of this album’s proceeds will be donated to Alzheimer’s charities.

“Doane and I had several conversations about Alzheimer’s since his father also suffered from the disease and he is quite versed in many of the medical complexities,” he continues of The Darkest Hour itself. “He liked the song (even in its embryonic form), so I sent him a chart to outline the structure and identify a few meter twists and turns. He enthusiastically experimented and developed a great groove for the drum track with meticulously layered percussion – all which propel the song with muscular polyrhythms.

“Likewise, Martin enthused about playing with Doane again and contributed mandolin, flute, rhythm guitar enhancements, and of course his trademark soloing. If you listen closely, I’m sure you’ll get a chuckle out of the playful reference to that well-known JT tune from 1969. Martin and Doane definitely bring a powerful and identifiable energy to the track.”
