CROBOT Premier “Nothing” Music Video

CROBOT Premier

With guitarist Chris Bishop having made the decision that Crobot needs “one of those “MTV-style videos,” the band – Bishop, vocalist Brandon Yeagley, bassist Pat Seals, and drummer Dan Ryan – ventured out into the wilds of Pennsylvania’s woods to do just that.

Crobot’s brand new music video, “Nothing”, not only demonstrates the band’s ability to produce a seismic, sonic event, but to locate and feature one of the most sought-after legends in history – the seven-foot tall, hairy creature who stalks the woods – Bigfoot.

The “Nothing” video is loud and bombastic, with an unanticipated, happy ending, and you can check it out below:

Crobot’s upcoming album, Obsidian, is set for a September 13 release (Megaforce Records). Produced by Crobot, recorded at The Machine Shop Studios in Austin, TX, and engineered, mixed, and mastered by Alberto De Icaza, the 12 tracks on Obsidian dive into the deep, murky waters of the human condition, threading ancient myths with personal demons across its tracks.

Obsidian tracklisting:

“Obsidian”
“Come Down”
“Nothing”
“From The Ground”
“Disappear”
“Metal”
“The Flood”
“Ancient Druid Crown”
“Head Of The Beast”

EAGLES Legend DON HENLEY - Building The Perfect Beast 40th Anniversary 2LP And Newly Remastered Digital Edition Due In October

As the Eagles’ gear up for their highly anticipated Sphere residency in Las Vegas, Nevada, Universal Music Enterprises announced today that it will release a 40th Anniversary vinyl edition of Don Henley’s triple-platinum Building The Perfect Beast album on October 4. Pre-order here.

Building The Perfect Beast will be available as a 2LP set for the first time, remastered from the original analog tapes and pressed on 180-gram vinyl. The album features the hit singles “The Boys Of Summer,” “All She Wants To Do Is Dance,” “Sunset Grill,” and “Not Enough Love In The World.” The new 2LP release will also feature the vinyl debut of the album’s complete track list, as “A Month Of Sundays” was only available previously on the CD, cassette, and digital versions.

A newly remastered digital version of the album will be available on the same date for streaming and download. The remastered “The Boys Of Summer” is available today digitally.

In addition to featuring four hit singles, Building The Perfect Beast garnered five Grammy nominations and won the award for “Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male” for “The Boys Of Summer.” Don Henley was the biggest winner of the 1985 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home four Moonmen, including “Video of the Year” for “The Boys of Summer,” which was also the year’s most nominated video.

Best known as co-founder of the legendary rock band, the Eagles, as well as an influential solo artist, Don Henley has maintained an extraordinary commitment to music and various philanthropic efforts throughout his career, including a dedication to environmental issues and artists’ rights.

Raised in a small East Texas town, Henley was drawn to the sounds of exotic music broadcast from distant radio stations in New Orleans, Nashville, and Ciudad Acuna, Mexico. These stations introduced him to the blues, bluegrass, gospel, jazz, and rock and roll, paving the way for his future as an artist.

As a solo artist and member of the Eagles, Don Henley has received countless accolades, numerous gold and platinum records, and performed sold-out concert tours worldwide. A highly-respected musical artist, Henley launched his solo career in 1982 with his debut album, I Can’t Stand Still, featuring the hit single “Dirty Laundry.” 1984’s Building The Perfect Beast followed, and the artist’s track record continued unabated with 1989’s The End Of The Innocence, which yielded three more hits, including the title track, and brought Henley another Best Rock Vocal Grammy Award. BLACK SABBATH Reach A Billboard Chart For The First Time With One Of Their Biggest Hits

Black Sabbath’s final breakup in 2017 has not dissuaded fans from continuing to listen to the band’s work, reports Forbes. The group remains a fixture in the hard rock and metal genres, and their legendary status isn’t about to disappear anytime soon.

The group’s work is still important and popular, even to this day. This week, one of Black Sabbath’s biggest hits even manages to reach a Billboard chart its never appeared on before, as fans continue to buy – and especially stream – the tune.

“Paranoid” reaches the “Hard Rock Streaming Songs” chart this week. The tune debuts on Billboard’s list of the most-streamed hard rock (and metal) tracks in the US at #13.

As the Black Sabbath smash lands on the streaming-only list, Black Sabbath reaches the ranking for the first time. Despite being one of the most famous names in the hard rock genre, the group has never managed to appear on the “Hard Rock Streaming Songs” chart.

New proggy sounds from Nightwish, i Häxa, Souls Of Ambience and more in Prog’s Tracks Of The Week

Prog Tracks

Welcome to Prog‘s brand new Tracks Of The Week. Six brand new and diverse slices of progressive music for you to enjoy.

Well done to Ebony Buckle, who romped home with almost half of last week’s vote with Golden Sand. Currently best-known as one of Solstice’s backing singers, after this, well, who knows? A doff of the cap to Dutch proggers Dilemma and Italian guitarist Luca in second and third place respectively.

The premise for Tracks Of The Week is simple – we’ve collated a batch of new releases by bands falling under the progressive umbrella, and collated them together in one post for you – makes it so much easier than having to dip in and out of various individual posts, doesn’t it?

The idea is to watch the videos (or listen if it’s a stream), enjoy (or not) and also to vote for your favourite in the voting form at the bottom of this post. Couldn’t be easier could it?

We’ll be bringing you Tracks Of The Week, as the title implies, each week. Next week we’ll update you with this week’s winner, and present a host of new prog music for you to enjoy.

If you’re a band and you want to be featured in Prog‘s Tracks Of The Week, send your video (as a YouTube link) or track embed, band photo and biog to us here.

NIGHTWISH – THE DAY OF…

Finnish prog metal sextet Nightwish will release their latest album, Yesterwynde, through Nuclear Bast Records on September 20. The album concludes a loose trilogy with the preceding 2015’s Endless Forms Most Beautiful and 2020’s Human. :II: Nature., all of which ponder man’s place in the Cosmos. With Yesterwynde concentrating on aspects of time, the ebullient The Day Of… shows the band, while not as bombastic as they can be, richly symphonic…

The Day Of… delivers a message of hope and deliverance from the deluge of fear and misery we are subjected to on a daily basis,” explains keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen. “And even though it’s a long road to a dreamworld, there are no monsters under the bed; as the children in the song joyously remind us.”

SOULS OF AMBIENCE – GREY STREET

Souls Of Ambience are the brainchild of Australian prog rock keyboardist Greg Sneddon, who released his debut album Mind Stroll through Mushroom Records in 1974, and woud later work with both Skyhooks and members of Men At Work. With Souls Of Ambience, he’s teamed up with British bassist Kevin Kershaw (formerly of Valhalla), guitarist Mareky Taborsky and drummer Chris George and they will release their debut concept album, A 1000 Tears, through WormHoleDeath Records on October 4.

“A 1000 Tears intricately weaves the downward spiral story of a young woman who, driven by the need to shield her sibling from their abusive stepfather, finds herself on a harrowing path,” Sneddon reveals. “From dressing in black to confront him to escaping to Grey Street, St Kilda, her narrative unfolds amidst the stark realities of street life. The album delves into themes of loss, resilience, and spiritual transcendence, offering a poignant reflection on the profound impacts of trauma and the quest for healing and redemption.”

I HÄXA – DRYLAND

i Häxa are the brand new project from songwriter and visual artist Rebecca Need-Menear (of electronic alt-rock duo Anavae) and forward-thinking producer Peter Miles (Architects, Dodie, Fizz) who have been using the seasonal solstices of 2024 as waypoints to unveil three further collections of songs and cinematics ahead of a vinyl box-set combining all four Parts and a full-length album, set for release in November via Berlin’s esteemed label, Pelagic Records.  It’s August, so we now have Part Three, with the conclusion arriving in November.

Part Three is visceral, deep and driving, with bone-shaking basslines interrupted without warning by abrupt, high-gain percussion as singer-songwriter and visual artist Rebecca Need-Menear’s spellbinding voice and cryptic lyrics float effortlessly above,” the band say.

KOSMODROME – FATIGUE

Heavy psych proggers Kosmodrome hail from Norway, the brainchild of brothers Sturle Sandvik on guitars and vocals and Severin Sandvik on drums and joined by Ole Andreas Jensen on bass and Erlend Nord on guitar. The quartet have just signed to Hamburg’s StickMan Records, home to the excellent Elder, delving and Motorpsycho, and will release their second album, Ad Undas, from which comes Fatigue, on October 11

“A hard-hitting song that captures the relentless grind — where every push feels like progress, but the weight of expectations and how you handle them pulls you under,” explains Severin. “It depicts the toll of constant striving and the need for balance in a hectic life. It’s the anthem of burning out, yet refusing to give up. Heavy psychedelic rock as well as progressive and stoner are genres that describe it.”

THE WRING – THE SWORD

Canadian prog metal trio The Wring will release their fourth studio album Nemesis through WormHoleDeath Records on September 27, from which comes new single The Sword. The band started out as solo endeavor for guitarist Don Dewulf, who began supporting the likes of Diamond Head and Anvil to working with the likes of Bryan Beller (Aristcrats) and Marc Bonilla (Keith Emerson).

“I’ve had the main riff and structure for a long time, but it never felt right,” explains Dewulf. “I tried it with other drummers and bass players and always put it to the side. I came back to it again for Nemesis. With Reggie’s vocals and bass and Kyle’s drumming, suddenly it felt great. Almost Megadeth-y. Super fun to play. I actually used a Dave Mustaine signature King V to play it because I was getting too much spring noise from my Floyd guitars while picking the fast parts. Reggie used a pick (which he rarely does) for an extra attack. The bass lines are killer. Probably the most ‘metal’ song I’ve recorded.”

DEATH BY GONG – EVERYTHING IS GIVEN

Death By Gong feature Jobst M. Feit (Radare), Peter Voigtmann (SHRVL/ex-The Ocean) and Chris Breuer (Zahn, Heads) who dance around on the fringes of left-field prog mixed with elements of krautrock and electronica. The trio will release their debut album Descalator through Pelagic Records in September, and the gently undulating Everything Is Given is the latest single from the upcoming record.

“We always aim to tell an interesting story with our videos,” says Feit. “For Everything Is Given, Nicolai [Hildebrandt, video creator] had the idea to use old footage he discovered, which fit perfectly with part of the song. We then researched additional material to enhance the story. Nicolai created a cool collage by mixing the best parts, and I love how the segments now work together. The video remains abstract and open to interpretation, which I appreciate. I think this feeling will be common across all three of our videos.”

Fire, faith and forgiveness: Former Great White manager Alan Niven on the self-destructive Jack Russell

Great White manager Alan Niven with singer Jack Russell

“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench along a plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There is also a negative side.” – Hunter S Thompson

I got the call today/I didn’t want to hear.” – Don Henley

There was a time, not so very long ago, when I would have beaten Jack Russell like a dog. In a fury of incandescent anger. For all the outrages he had inflicted on so many.

Supremely self-destructive, he left disasters in his wake as casually as the thoughtless toss fast food wrappers out of moving vehicles. If Icarus had dared the sun, Russell had strapped a rocket onto his ass and launched himself into its burning core. As others manoeuvred with deceitful calculation along the cruel trenches of the music biz, Jack exuberantly led a charge and yelled “over the top,” determined to find deeper troughs to plunder. K’pan Jack was the personification of the pyrat.

Jack’s self-destructive appetites were unquenchable. There wasn’t a drug he had not taken and I became convinced he could smell coke from a quarter mile away. Jack once asked if I minded if he didn’t attend sound checks. Assuming this was inconvenient to his vocal ‘warm up’ schedule it was of no concern to me. Later, his personal assistant, the notorious Wookie, pulled me aside and asked, “Do ya know why he doesn’t do soundchecks? It’s because he knows where the band is at that moment and he can fuck their wives and girlfriends.” He fucked ’em all. Jack never knew a pussy he didn’t want.

Disasters? I was forced to abandon Great White’s first headline tour, supported by MSG and Havana Black, after finding him in Phoenix, Arizona, deep in conversation with a poolside saguaro cactus. “Hey Niv, I got some high for you too,” he smilingly offered. “This cactus has some mighty wisdoms.”

He was supposed to be in Midland, Texas, preparing for that night’s show. He’d jumped on a plane to return to his dealers in L.A.. Obliterated, in Phoenix he had been removed from the flight. He was in no condition to continue the tour so I had to clean him up and employ a ‘minder’.

Great White Manager Alan Niven sits at a piano smoking with singer Jack Russell

Alan Niven and Jack Russell, on a video shoot (Image credit: Alan Niven)

The transition from great support act to solid headliner is the most difficult development in a band’s progression. Great White never got another chance to make that move. The inconvenienced and pissed-off promoters never forgave the cancellation losses. Worse was the fact that the tour was selling, entirely sold out in the North East, a difficult market even in the best of times. Worse still was the fact that all the bands on the bill were Capitol acts – a marketing perfection for the company. Cancellation of the tour, however, undermined not just one record, but three. Capitol were less than thrilled and thus disinclined to support the band in the future. Catastrophic consequence courtesy of Russell indulgence.

Car wrecks, fights and multiple arrests, Jack left a trail of destruction in his wake. One night Jack thought it imperative to place his bare ass up against a window partition in the rock’n’roll Denny’s on Sunset. In the next booth were some of L.A’s finest law officers. They took him outside and showed him what a riot stick was for.

I should have known what to expect. One of the first things I did as his manager was to cut my hair, put on a suit and attend a parole hearing. Jack had shot a woman during an attempt to rob a dealer of their drugs. Jack had informed the court he intended to be a singer. They were unimpressed with this ambition. They wanted to keep him off the streets. In my best PBS Oxford/English diction I informed the court that, “In my estimation, Mr Russell has the ability to have a very successful career in entertainment.” That carried the day – no one contradicts a Downton Abbey accent. In a suit.

No longer his manager, my anger boiled over on February 20th, 2003. I could not believe the vain stupidity of using pyro in a club. I was crushed by all the dead and injured. For some time I felt guilty, for if I had not taken the band out of the stinking clubs of Orange County, if I had not co-composed so many of their original songs, had I not produced their successful albums, those people might still be alive. I was also furious because this tragedy would, and did, have a profoundly negative effect on my own creative legacy.

And yet, today, I have only love for Russell. We reminisced almost every month. The hatchet had been buried. Wrapped in the shroud of hindsight’s laughter. I have always understood that life is not a matter of reaching destinations, but of making journeys. We are here to learn, develop our comprehensions, of the self and others, and to faithfully attend to the health of our souls. After all, the highest purpose in music is to suspend alienation and bring people together, by their own consent. Rock musicians are symbols of freedom, personifications of that myth, and representatives of togetherness.

Tony Montana, and my wife Heather, had made me go to one of Jack’s concerts. There, I found someone profoundly changed – he’d become spiritually enlightened, a symbolic representative.

Jack had truly progressed. Made the journey. One we had shared. Consequently, I in turn, was able to progress to forgiveness.

At the end of the day, isn’t that the heart of the matter?

Alan Niven is a New Zealand-born band manager best known for his time as manager of Guns N’ Roses and Great White. He was manager of GN’R from 1986 to 1991, overseeing the band’s affairs as they recorded Appetite For Destruction, but was fired by Axl Rose before the completion of Use Your Illusion. He also worked with the likes of Dokken, Berlin and Mötley Crüe.

Halsey drops Nine Inch Nails and Bring Me The Horizon-inspired rock track, Lonely Is The Muse

Alt-pop star Halsey has dropped the new single, Lonely Is The Muse, and it sees them venture towards a new emo and pop-punk style sound.

Lonely Is The Muse is the latest song to arrive from their forthcoming currently untitled fifth album, following the releases of The End and Lucky.

The track is evocative of her work with Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Bring Me The Horizon, and features angsty, emotive lyrics such as ‘I spent years becoming cool and in one single second / You can make a decade of my efforts disappear / I’m just waiting at the bar and you rip open all my scars’.

Halsey previously previewed the new song during her appearances at Budapest’s Sziget Festival and Helsinki’s Flow Festival. Most recently, they unveiled the track last night (August 16) at her secret show in London’s Koko, alongside a preview of another new unreleased track, Ego.

Speaking of song during the show, Halsey said, “I’ve been teasing a new song for the past couple of days. You guys are the first people in the world to hear it… lowkey even before some of the people who work at the label.

“After the festival in Budapest, they were like ‘Hey, we’re not mad… but what the fuck was that?’. I was like, ‘Have you met me before? Does that sound like something that would be out of character for me to do?’ No, what you get is what you get.”
