Opeth’s 2005 album Ghost Reveries was a turning point for the Swedish prog metal heavyweights, introducing them to a wider audience. As the album was released the band found themselves on the Sounds Of The Underground tour in the US, playing alongside the likes of Lamb Of God and GWAR, which is where Hammer spoke to mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt about being perpetual outsiders.

Shaded from the heat in a small woodland clearing in San Jose, California, Mikael Åkerfeldt, vocalist and guitarist with Swedish prog-metallers Opeth casually reclines on the grass, his eyes masked by sunglasses, a cigarette smouldering in his distinctive toothy grin. A faint breeze rustles the leaves – the atmosphere is serene and peaceful, our actual location betrayed only by the screeching roars belting out of the battered PA system  just beyond the tree line.

Backstage at the Sounds Of The Underground tour, Akerfeldt winces as Madball tear their way through a midday set. Already on his fifth interview of the day, the singer and his band are the needle in the haystack of this rolling metal circus that features amongst others Throwdown, Devildriver, Lamb Of God and GWAR. One of the few bands with melodies, one of even fewer with keyboards, and the only act boasting a mid-set ballad, Opeth have surprised, and impressed, everyone. Akerfeldt seems happy to explain what’s up.

Hi Mikael. We can’t help wondering, what are you doing on this tour?

Mikael Åkerfeldt: “That’s our plan with this whole thing: to fit in, but to stand out a mile. A lot of the bands on this tour sound very alike for my taste and we are here to get some new fans and we knew we’d stand out a bit because of the way that we sound.”

And are you happy to sound so different?

“Yeah, I don’t want to be just some other band. We’ve been playing a ballad as part of our set and after it people cheer – all of them – so I think it’s going well.”

How are you getting on with the other bands?

“Great. I have made some really good new friends. High On Fire, Clutch, Devildriver, they are good guys. All the bands are really friendly to the only Swedes.”

Why do you think there’s such an American fixation with Swedes?

“People are obsessed over here with the metal scene from Sweden. I can kind of understand it because there are a lot of bands, but the situation in Sweden is the same as everywhere else. There are handful of great, great bands and then there is a hell of a lot of shit. Maybe we are looked upon as exotic and I guess we have our ‘sound’, but I am as sick and tired of the Swedish scene as I am the UK scene or US scene.”

So how is it being thrown into that scene?

“I don’t think we fit in with any bands on this tour, or any bands, regardless of where they are from. We get a lot of respect from the bands here though. They come up to us and say that they’ve been fans of ours for years and think that we’re the best band on the tour! It might just be talk, but at least they say it.”

No one seems to just ‘like’ Opeth. They either haven’t heard of you, or fucking love you…

“Yeah, I like that. I would hate to have people have a ‘so-so’ reaction to us. I like the fans to be really into what we do because we are. We aren’t based on anything else. We aren’t about image or saying cool things between the songs. Opeth is a musical band.”

Wow, do you think there could ever be an Opeth musical? Is that a style of music that you would consider writing?

“Well, there is no limit with Opeth. It’s not like if we run out of ideas for what we sound like now we are going to go and do rap. We only incorporate styles of music that we like ourselves. That’s what Opeth has been from the beginning, a mish-mash of styles. Why should we limit ourselves? I mean, we aren’t trying to show off but when I write I am paying attention to it and I want to be affected by it.”

Do other bands’ music still ‘affect’ you?

“Of course. I am still on the hunt for really good bands, so I buy more records than I can afford. I am obsessed with our own music and I am obsessed with music over all. I am always looking out for great music but I also like to diss music and talk shit about bands.”

Go on then…

(laughing) “No, not in an interview, just with my friends.”

What is it that most disappoints you about shitty bands?

“I am not disappointed, it’s just my taste. I am sometimes stunned that labels pick up some bands and spend money on them and that they have success. I don’t like many bands actually, the metal scene today is horrible.”

So if you had your way, what direction should it go in?

“Something creative. I am not saying, ‘oh, look at us, look at Opeth’, it’s just that many bands sound alike and labels keep on signing up bands that sound like In Flames or sound like Soilwork. It’s all about money.”

Watch On

Formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1990, Opeth have just released their eighth album of magical, prog-metal, experimental rock. Though there are undoubtedly a number of dedicated followers who have been there from the beginning, the band’s rise has been a gradual one, enchanting  a few new fans and admirers at each step of their 15 year career. Their latest release, Ghost Reveries, is sure to swell the ranks of devotees, but it has been a long and arduous struggle to the top.

When did people start taking an interest in Opeth?

“It took a while, but that has really been our goal from the beginning, that is everyone’s goal. You start a band and you have those dreams about touring the world. We get to do that now, and that’s great, but it wasn’t always that way. 1996 to 2000 was pretty bad for us, no one took any notice and we didn’t get any tours. We weren’t selling enough to make money, I had some little jobs but I didn’t want to work, I just wanted to commit to music. People deal with challenges differently but, if I am going to be any good at something, I need to really concentrate on it believe if you concentrate on one thing you will end up being good or better at it and Opeth is what I want to do.”

At what point did you decide that?

“When we did the first album, 11 years ago. I thought it was going to be great and we were going to be huge, but obviously that didn’t happen. But I had those dreams from the very beginning. We started when we were still in school and my parents wanted me to get a real job, I said that I wanted to be a musician or open up a record store. They asked whether I had any higher hopes, but I had already decided, pretty early on I guess. It got to the point where I was living without my parents and I was too proud to ask my mother for money. That was basically when I decided that I was going to have to stick to this no matter what. I was poor for a while but then the ball and the band started rolling and now it’s a full-time job.”

What was the big-break moment?

“That was probably when Blackwater Park came out, that was when we got a new record deal and the label put us out on tour and everything was taken care of more professionally. We started to see a little money and we started seeing more support in the US. We did a gig here in 1999 and about 2000 kids came to see us and we realised that we might be able to tour America. For some reason, touring America is every musician’s dream, unless you are American, and then you want to tour Europe. We have done both, we still do both. We are very fortunate.”

What sorts of people come out to see you play in America?

“All sorts. The music is so diverse and we did one album that is not even a metal album. So we have everything from 10-year-old kids to the time we played the Mean Fiddler in London, when there was a guy in the front row screaming along with the lyrics who was about 75-years-old.”

Opeth posing for a photograph in 2005

What do you think people of that age see or hear in your music?

“I don’t know. Maybe they think that we sound like Pink Floyd or something. But I think that if you are even slightly interested in music then there is a chance that you might like Opeth. We are more than a metal band. Well, what I mean is that we are a metal band, but there is also more to it than that. I think that anyone that is genuinely interested in music will find something in Opeth that they like. We have been branded an intelligent man’s band, but that’s just talk. I don’t think it’s true, I am sure that we have stupid fans too. Come on, I am stupid, and I like this band.”

Even after 15 years of doing it?

“I love it and I don’t get bored ever. I love our own music, I love music over all and I love playing. That’s where my intelligence lies, all in the music. I am completely self-taught and I don’t know shit about theory but I know music. I couldn’t teach it though.”

You could! Perhaps your passion for it is infectious enough to inspire young minds.

“That’s probably true, we get people every day coming up to us saying that we’ve been really inspirational to them and that my guitar playing is what made them want to play, but that’s a  different thing – education and inspiration are totally different things. Education is great but with music you might get to a point where you are so educated that you don’t think anymore, you just do what you’re supposed to do. A combination of that and inspiration would probably be perfect and the greatest, but I am just too lazy to get educated. I would love to go back to school and take History classes, maybe then I can win at Jeopardy!”

What’s the single most important thing people know about Opeth?

“Now that we have signed to Roadrunner people think we are going to sell out – they don’t know what the fuck they are talking about. Opeth will never sell out and do things for money. We won’t change ourselves for cash because this is from the heart. We can’t do it any other way. If people scream, ‘sell-outs!’ every time you start earning or start getting bigger, it’s just because they cant have you in their pockets any more. I didn’t have any doubts about signing because we are so secure in ourselves. I was mildly unsure whether they would do the right job for us, but if they try and get in between the band and try and arrange things, then I will say ‘fuck you’. If that doesn’t work, we’ll just leave.”

Why is it better to play Aviator through the Android app than through your smartphone browser?

Playing the Aviator game through an Android APK offers several advantages over playing it in a browser. These benefits contribute to a smoother, more enjoyable gaming experience, particularly for those who play frequently or for extended periods. Here’s why playing the Aviator game on the Android APK is superior to playing in a browser:

1. Optimized Performance
The Aviator game APK is specifically designed for Android devices, meaning the game is optimized to run smoothly on your smartphone or tablet. This optimization leads to faster load times, reduced lag, and a more responsive gaming experience compared to playing in a browser, where performance can be hindered by browser limitations and resource allocation.

2. Enhanced User Interface
The APK version of the Aviator game is tailored to fit the screen and input methods of Android devices. This means you’ll experience a more intuitive and user-friendly interface, with controls that are designed for touch screens. In contrast, the browser version may not be as fluid or responsive, especially on mobile devices where browsers can sometimes struggle with touch interactions.

3. Convenience and Accessibility
With the Aviator game installed as an APK on your Android device, you can access the game with just a single tap from your home screen, without the need to open a browser and navigate to a website. This ease of access makes it more convenient to jump into the game quickly, whether you’re at home or on the go.

4. Push Notifications
One significant advantage of the APK version is the ability to receive push notifications directly to your device. These notifications can alert you to special promotions, bonuses, or important updates, ensuring you never miss out on opportunities that could enhance your gameplay. Browser-based play typically does not offer this feature.

5. Security and Privacy
Playing through the APK provides enhanced security features, such as biometric authentication (fingerprint or facial recognition), which add an extra layer of protection to your account. The APK version can also store your login credentials securely, allowing for quicker and safer access to the game. In contrast, playing in a browser might expose you to more security risks, especially if you’re not careful with your browsing habits or if your device is not secured properly.

6. Offline Features
While the actual gameplay requires an internet connection, the APK version allows you to access certain features of the game offline, such as browsing game options, reviewing past performance, and managing account settings. This is not possible with the browser version, which typically requires a constant internet connection for all activities.

7. Battery Efficiency
The Aviator APK is generally more efficient in terms of battery usage compared to playing in a browser. Mobile browsers can be resource-intensive, consuming more battery life, especially during extended gaming sessions. The APK is optimized to reduce battery drain, allowing for longer playtime.

8. Fewer Distractions
Playing through the APK means you won’t have to deal with the potential distractions of a browser, such as pop-ups, ads, or the temptation to switch tabs. This allows you to focus entirely on the game, enhancing your concentration and potentially improving your gameplay performance.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Aviator App for Android

The Aviator app for Android offers a unique and thrilling gaming experience for online gamblers, particularly those who enjoy crash-style games. However, like any app, it has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Here’s a detailed look at both:

Advantages of the Aviator App for Android

1. Optimized Performance
● The Aviator app is specifically designed for Android devices, ensuring smooth gameplay, faster load times, and minimal lag. This optimization is crucial in a game where timing is everything, enhancing the overall user experience.
2. User-Friendly Interface
● The app features an interface tailored for mobile devices, with intuitive controls and easy navigation. The touch-screen functionality is well-integrated, making it more comfortable and efficient to place bets and cash out compared to using a browser.
3. Convenient Access
● With the app installed on your Android device, you can access the game instantly with just a tap. This eliminates the need to open a browser, navigate to a website, and log in each time you want to play, making it more convenient for frequent users.
4. Push Notifications
● The app can send push notifications directly to your device, alerting you to special promotions, bonuses, or important updates. This ensures you never miss out on opportunities that could enhance your gaming experience.
5. Enhanced Security
● The Aviator app offers better security features compared to browser play, including biometric login options like fingerprint or facial recognition. These features add an extra layer of protection for your account and personal information.
6. Offline Access to Features
● While you need an internet connection to play the game, the app allows you to access certain features, such as settings or game history, even when offline. This flexibility can be useful in managing your account or preparing for gameplay.
7. Battery Efficiency
● The app is generally more efficient in terms of battery usage than playing in a browser, which can be resource-intensive. This means longer play sessions without the need to frequently recharge your device.

Disadvantages of the Aviator App for Android

1. Device Compatibility
● The app may not be compatible with all Android devices, particularly older models or those with outdated operating systems. This can limit accessibility for some users who might not be able to install or run the app smoothly.
2. Storage Space
● Downloading and installing the Aviator app requires storage space on your device. For users with limited storage capacity, this could be a drawback, especially if they already have many apps installed.
3. Manual Updates
● Unlike apps available on Google Play that update automatically, the Aviator app requires manual updates. Users need to revisit the website to download the latest version, which can be inconvenient and might lead to playing on outdated versions if updates are missed.
4. Security Risks with APK Files
● Since the Aviator app is not available on the Google Play Store, it must be downloaded as an APK file from a third-party website. This poses a security risk if the file is not downloaded from a trusted source, potentially exposing your device to malware or other security threats.
5. Limited Availability
● The app’s availability may be restricted in certain regions due to legal and licensing issues. This limitation could prevent some users from accessing the app or enjoying all of its features.
6. No In-Game Purchases
Some players might prefer apps that offer in-game purchases or other monetization options within the app store environment, which are not available in the Aviator app due to its distribution method.

Responsible Gambling

Even though gambling opportunities are limited, responsible gambling is still crucial. Here’s how to keep it in check:
● Set Limits, Bro: Always set a budget before you start gambling. Stick to it and never chase losses. Only gamble with money you can afford to lose.
● Time Management, Nong: Set time limits for your gambling activities. Don’t let it interfere with your daily life, work, or family time.
● Stay Informed, Mae: Understand the games you are playing. Know the rules, odds, and the potential risks involved.
● Seek Help, Yai: If you think you or someone you know has a gambling problem, don’t hesitate to seek help. There are organizations and hotlines available for support, like the Thailand Responsible Gambling Program.
● Balance is Key, Phee: Make sure gambling is just one of many hobbies. Keep a balanced life with diverse activities and interests.

Conclusion

The Aviator app for Android offers a range of advantages that make it an attractive option for those who enjoy mobile gaming, particularly in the fast-paced world of online gambling. Its optimized performance, user-friendly interface, and added security features provide a superior gaming experience compared to playing in a browser. However, potential drawbacks, such as device compatibility issues, manual updates, and the need to download from a third-party source, should be considered.

Ultimately, the decision to use the Aviator app will depend on your personal preferences and gaming habits. If you prioritize convenience, performance, and security, the app is a strong choice. However, if you are concerned about storage space, device compatibility, or security risks associated with APK files, you might prefer alternative methods of accessing the game.

Why Slash Got Rid of His Early Guns N’ Roses Guitars

Why Slash Got Rid of His Early Guns N’ Roses Guitars
Ethan Miller, Getty Images

Slash admits he didn’t hang onto guitars from early in his career.

“Unfortunately all that first stuff is gone,” the rocker confessed during a recent appearance on the Mistress Carrie podcast. “In the early days of Guns N’ Roses, there was a lot of hocking going on. Trying to get extra cash, so a lot of those guitars went by the way of that.”

There is, however, one exception. The GNR rocker detailed the story behind the lone guitar he’s hung onto since those formative years.

Slash’s Oldest Guitar Came From a Babysitting Gig

“The only guitar that I still have from my very early days of playing was a guitar that was given to me when I took on a babysitting job once,” Slash recalled. “I was always looking for work and someone said to me, ‘Hey, I’ve got a friend who needs a babysitter.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it.’ I think it was like a seven-year-old girl. And I was like, ‘OK, cool.’”

When Slash arrived at the family’s home, his eyes quickly turned to an instrument on display.

“They had an acoustic, a 1930s Epiphone acoustic hanging on the wall. And I asked them before the parents left if I could play it,” he explained. “So the girl had dinner and then she slept the whole time, and I just sat on the couch playing this really beautiful Epiphone guitar.”

“When the parents came home they saw how enthralled with this guitar I was and they gave it to me,” the rocker continued. “And I still have it.”

Slash’s most recent album, Orgy of the Damned, was released in May. He’s spent the bulk of summer on the road with his S.E.R.P.E.N.T. touring festival.

EMASCULATOR Launch “In Resplendent Terror” Single From Upcoming Debut EP

EMASCULATOR Launch “In Resplendent Terror” Single From Upcoming Debut EP

Brutal death band Emasculator has launched the first single off their debut EP, The Disfigured And The Divine. The song, “In Resplendent Terror,” is the band’s first offering since signing with New Standard Elite earlier this year.

The Disfigured and the Divine delves into themes of the Goddess in mythology and legend, womanhood and motherhood, overcoming obstacles, justice, spirituality, the human experience, and growing into power. The title symbolizes the state of the Divine Feminine as experienced in the modern world; highly controlled, often under attack, suppressed but ever-present, potent, important, fierce, and beautiful.

The EP is the product of the band sharing music back and forth online, and feeding off each other’s enthusiasm, ideas, and criticism. The guitars are heavily influenced by early 2000s underground brutal death (such as Disgorge, Deeds of Flesh, Disavowed, and Inveracity) while taking some inspiration from modern death metal. The drums meld together relentless blast beats with bone-jarring grooves. The vocals are aggressive and dynamic, featuring a wide range of techniques and styles.

The cover artwork – painted by vocalist and artist Mallika Sundaramurthy – is a portrait of the Hindu goddess Chhinnamasta.

“She is seen making the ultimate sacrifice for others,” says Sundaramurthy of the concept behind her artwork. “She has severed her own head and is feeding her followers with her life force, her own blood. In giving, she is also receiving nourishment. She has overcome death and will soon return her head to its place. She is standing on a love-making couple, meaning she is above the life-procreation-death cycle. She can also be interpreted as a mother figure who sacrifices for her children, as mothers sacrifice and even risk their lives for their babies during childbirth.”

New Standard Elite will release The Disfigured and the Divine on physical formats on September 25. Preorder at nserecords.bigcartel.com.

Emasculator will make their live debut at this year’s Texas Domination Fest, scheduled for September 26-28 in Dallas / Ft. Worth, TX. The band is set to tour Europe in May of 2025 around Nice To Eat You Deathfest (Czechia).

“The Unassailable” features a guest appearance by Vishal Singh, with chants by Swathi Kalahasti. Guest vocals on “Age of the Goddess” by Daniela Dahlien Neumanová.

The Disfigured And The Divine was mixed & mastered by Josh Welshman. Guitar and bass were recorded by L.B. at Divine Retribution Studios. Vocals recorded by Tonda Smrčka at Seabeast Production. Drums recorded by Taylor Hahn at Hahn Audio.

NINTH CIRCLE Announces Rerelease Of Two Albums

NINTH CIRCLE Announces Rerelease Of Two Albums

Los Angeles melodic metal outfit, Ninth Circle, have announced the digital rerelease of two albums; 2012’s Legions Of The Brave and 2020’s Echo Black.

“We are proud to announce that two of more most acclaimed and best-selling records, Legions Of The Brave and Echo Black, have come back home under our own label, Ninthcircleworld Records”, explains bassist, Frank Forray.

“For the last 10 years we have had a fantastic relationship with Germany’s Pure Steel Records”, explains Frank. “They did a great job promoting our records and the band all over the world. Now that our agreement has expired, we are pleased to bring these two records home into the fold on our own label, Ninthcircleworld Records. They are now home along with our debut record, the self-titled Ninth Circle and the record that gave us world-wide exposure, 2009’s The Power Of One.”

“Legions Of The Brave and Echo Black”, Frank goes on to say, “are now available on your favorite streaming and digital platforms. I encourage our fans around the world to search for these records as they have become available again for you to enjoy wherever you are and wherever you go!”

“We’ve had fans in the past tell us that they discovered us through digital platforms”, Dennis adds. “It’s a necessary tool, especially right now. I myself have discovered new music this way and we look forward to increasing our fan base with each of our releases!”

“As a great added bonus”, Frank discusses with enthusiasm, “you can now enjoy the cover of the Riot song, Warrior, as it was not available digitally previously. This will be a treat for fans of both Ninth Circle and Riot as we were able to partner with guitarist Mike Flyntz and vocalist Todd Michael Hall, they both contributed to the recording of the song.”

“Dennis had the pleasure of singing duet with Todd and playing dueling guitar solos with Mike. Both, Todd and Mike, were generous with their time to contribute to this recording and I believe the song, Warrior, turned out great and should be a treat for fans!” says Frank.

“Being able to re-release these two records digitally on our label is really about fans and giving them what they want: the ability to hear Ninth Circle music on their favorite streaming and digital services! And hopefully in not too long, we should be adding a new record for fans to enjoy.”

JIM PETERIK & WORLD STAGE Release “Rise Again” Single And Visualizer; New Album Available Now

JIM PETERIK & WORLD STAGE Release

Jim Peterik & World Stage have released their new album, Roots & Shoots Vol.2, via Frontiers Music Srl. The album follows up the release of Roots & Shoots Vol.1, released earlier this year.

Volume 2 presents Jim’s collaborations with Mike Reno, Jason Scheff, Toby Hitchcock, The Ides of March, Cathy Richardson (Jefferson Starship), and Neil Donnell (of Chicago). Among the “Shoots,” Sophia Sheth and Kevin Farris appear along with Marc Scherer, who recorded a great album with Peterik in 2015 entitled Risk Everything.

About the new album, Jim comments: “As I review this list of songs and incredible artists who participated in Roots & Shoots Vol. 2, I feel such gratitude. The combination of established classic rock stars and brilliant rising stars is beyond my wildest dreams. I wrote or co-wrote all these songs inspired by the unique musical gifts of each and every attempt. Along with the World Stage band my co-producer and engineer Larry Millas it is the Team Of Destiny. Hope this album gets your fist pumping and your juices flowing! Rock on!”

To celebrate the release, the band shares a fresh single, “Rise Again”, featuring the melodic powerhouse voice of Kevin Farris – check out the visualizer below:

World Stage, a concept rooted in musical and spiritual collaborations among artists and friends, is the best representation of Jim Peterik’s truly outstanding musical legacy and a testament to his songwriting abilities as one of the true wizards of melodic rock.

The Jim Peterik & World Stage concept arose from the idea that the musical and spiritual collaboration of great artists and friends could be truly special.

This idea created a string of records that followed the now close-to-legendary debut album released in the year 2000, where Peterik managed to present his collaboration with such rock luminaries as Dennis DeYoung (ex-Styx), Kevin Cronin (REO Speedwagon), Johnny Van Zant (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Don Barnes (.38 Special), Tom Kiefer (Cinderella) and many more.

That concept resurfaced in 2019 on the Winds of Change album when Peterik was joined by giants of American rock such as Dennis DeYoung again, Kevin Chalfant (ex-The Storm), Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger), Mike Reno (Loverboy), Jason Scheff (ex-Chicago) and more.

Later on, Peterik decided to dedicate an entire album to the ‘Women who Rock the World’ giving birth to the awesome album Tigress which showed his collaboration with such outstanding singers and musicians like Jennifer Batten, Chloe Lowery, Rosa Laricchiuta, Chez Kane and so many more.

All those albums spotlight the many talents of Jim Peterik, enhanced and embellished by a cast of noted singers and musicians.

SAGA Guitarist IAN CRICHTON Injured; DUSTY CHESTERFIELD And MIKE BORKOSKY Step In For Upcoming Shows

Canadian prog-rock band, Saga, have released the following official statement:

“Dear Saga Family, Friends, and Guests,

“We regret to inform you that our legendary mate, Ian Crichton, has unfortunately broken his foot/leg and went in for treatment last Friday. We’ve been informed that it will take around 6-8 weeks for lan to recover, and we’ll provide a further update around that time. Please join us in wishing lan plenty of rest and a swift recovery.

“Meanwhile, we’re acutely aware of the significant efforts our fans and partners have put into these shows, and we’re determined not to let any of you down. We’re on our toes, excited for the challenge, and eager to see how it all unfolds.

“As you can imagine, the past few days have been challenging as we explored our options. In a surprise twist, our very own bass boss, Dusty Chesterfield, has graciously offered to stand in for lan – just as he did for lan’s brother, our co-founder and bassist Jim Crichton, back in August, 2018. How cool is that?

“In turn, Dusty has invited his friend and long-time collaborator, Michael “Mike” Borkosky, to join us for these upcoming shows. Not only is Mike a prog fan, but he’s also a multi-talented pro who has toured with Alannah Myles, Sass Jordan, Melanie Doane, and currently with Rough Trade/ Carole Pope and JD Fortune Rocks INXS.

“We’re incredibly proud of Dusty and Mike for stepping up on such short notice – please give them both a round of encouragement!”

Watch footage of Lemmy tribute and exhibits at UK’s Bloodstock Open Air Festival

A bust of late Motorhead frontman Lemmy containing some of his ashes was unveiled on stage at Bloodstock Open Air Festival in England today.

Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell was joined by festival staff on the Main Stage to reveal the unique tribute as part of a ceremony called Lemmy Forever.

After the unveiling, the bust was moved to the festival’s Rock & Metal Gallery – which includes Lemmy’s dressing room. The dressing room includes a selection of Lemmy’s personal items such as his iconic hat, boots, bass guitar and hand-drawn pictures.

Also on display are handwritten lyrics, dressing room paraphernalia, and previously unseen personal photos.

Once the festival wraps up, the bust will be housed at the Rock City venue in nearby Nottingham.

Footage of the tribute and of the dressing room exhibits can be viewed below.

Explaining the Lemmy Forever idea, Motorhead manager Todd Singerman said: “Bloodstock has always been a special place for Motorhead and for Lemmy. The people and the energy matched Lemmy’s values perfectly.

“This is definitely a fitting honour in the continuing series of enshrinements of Lemmy’s ashes in his most loved places.”

Lemmy’s ashes have also been scattered at the German metal festival Wacken Open Air. Motorhead tour manager Eddie Rocha and production assistant Emma Cederblad both have tattoos that contain some of the ashes, and more of his ashes were sent to friends in bullets with Lemmy’s name on them.

Earlier this year, plans to erect a giant statue of Lemmy in the Staffordshire town where he was born were approved.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council gave the green light for the 2.2metre statue to be erected in Burslem’s Market Place.

Lemmy died on December 28, 2015, four days after his 70th birthday and two after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
