Eight-time Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood unites with Rock icons Papa Roach for a new recording of their multi-format hit single “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)”. This powerful duet, recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, furthers Papa Roach’s ongoing mission to raise awareness for suicide prevention and mental health. Partnering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), both artists will donate the song’s royalties to the organization in perpetuity. Additionally, the release aims to raise awareness for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States and Canada.
“We were humbled that Carrie was open to our mission, and hearing the power of Carrie’s voice in that recording session we were blown away” said frontman Jacoby Shaddix. “Not only is her vocal ability unequaled, but the impact of her voice brings a new meaning to our cause and will help people all over the globe. “I’m such a huge fan of Jacoby and Papa Roach and was honored to be invited to record ‘Leave A Light On’ with them,” says Underwood. “It’s a beautiful song and the message behind it and the band’s mission to shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness has never been more important.”
“Leave A Light On”, a band favorite, was first performed live last year with Shinedown and Spiritbox. In each city, including Nashville where Papa Roach fan Carrie Underwood was in attendance, the song was preceded by an emotional video PSA delivered by frontman Jacoby Shaddix, who pledged a donation to the AFSP on behalf of each city’s attendees, culminating in a $155,000 donation at the end of the tour.
The accomplishment motivated the band to commit even further by re-naming the single as “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)”, in conjunction with the AFSP’s “Talk Away The Dark” campaign, and pledged a perpetual royalty from the song’s use, in any manner, to the AFSP, continuing their mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. The compelling song has connected with audiences globally and became the band’s 12th #1 and 26th Top-10 hit reaching #1 at Rock and Top-10 at Alternative in the US. The band’s efforts in raising money for the AFSP have not ceased and are now estimated to be over $250,000 – and growing.

Shinedown, the multi-platinum rock band known for its powerful performances and chart-topping hits, has achieved another remarkable milestone. The band’s single “A Symptom Of Being Human” is now the first song by a band or solo artist to chart in the top 10 on three major Mediabase charts: Active Rock, Alternative, and Adult Contemporary (AC). This unprecedented chart achievement underscores Shinedown’s versatility and broad appeal across multiple music genres.

Opeth revealed their 14th studio album, The Last Will And Testament, is set for release on October 11 via Moderbolaget / Reigning Phoenix Music. It is five long years since their last album, 2019’s In Cauda Venenum, and also marks 30 years of the esteemed, creative band.

Prior to today’s worldwide announcement, the album was teased yesterday exclusively for attendees at Wacken Open Air 2024 in conjunction with the band’s performance at the illustrious festival. UK fans should be sure not to miss the revered group’s headline set at Bloodstock Open Air festival next Friday, August 9, where the band will perform a special fan-picked set. Opeth vocalist/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt admits, “I love this record. I have to say it (write it). Maybe I’m proud even? There are some familiar ingredients in there I suppose. Most of our music has sprung from the same source, so I guess it’s not much of a shocker if it’s going to sound like ‘us’. I’m a bit in awe of what we did with The Last Will And Testament. It feels like a dream. There is some ‘coherence’ and ‘songwriting skills’ I hope, but what do I know? I tend to favour the ‘strange’ over the ‘obvious,’ but I feel like I’m in the minority, and that’s fine. So…fair warning! Don’t expect an instant rush (as per usual), but if you do “get it” (have you got it yet?) right away, that’s ok too!”

The Last Will And Testament is a concept album set in the post-World War I era, unfolding the story of a wealthy, conservative patriarch whose last will and testament reveals shocking family secrets. The narrative weaves through the patriarch’s confessions, the reactions of his twin children, and the mysterious presence of a polio-ridden girl who the family have taken care of. The album begins with the reading of the father’s will in his mansion. Among those in attendance is a young girl, who, despite being an orphan and polio-ridden, has been raised by the family. Her presence at the will reading raises suspicions and questions among the twins.
Regarding the record’s creation, Åkerfeldt adds, “This is the first record with Walt on drums. Seeing and hearing him record his bits was otherworldly and what went through my head was something like: How can a human being play this stuff? The older cats (myself, Mendez, Fred, and Jocke) did our bits in due time. We did them well (I like to think) and the alcohol concentration in our blood was mostly quite low as the red light was on. We’re professionals, you see! Rockfield Studios treated us well and we love that place! Stefan Boman recorded and mixed it all (CAPTURED it on TAPE… kind of…). Miles Showell did the master at Abbey Road Studios and then we (myself and Stefan) took him for a curry in Covent Garden. Travis Smith has done this odd-masterpiece-artwork that put ‘clothes’ on the music. All in all, we hope we’ve put together a nice little morsel of information for you to nibble on when it’s raining out. Thank you for your time. Thank you for reading. Thank you for listening. Thank you for giving us a respectable past. I’ll thank you for our future in the actual future, OK?”
Åkerfeldt rolls out the red carpet for storied flautist and Jethro Tull main man Ian Anderson. Not only do Anderson’s signature notes fly on “§4” and “§7”, he narrates on “§1”, “§2”, “§4”, and “§7”. Joining Anderson, Europe’s Joey Tempest lends a backing vocal hand on “§2”, while Åkerfeldt’s youngest daughter, Mirjam Åkerfeldt, is the disembodied voice in “§1”.
The Last Will And Testament is gripping from start to finish, jaw-dropping inside and out, representing some of Opeth’s finest material to date. Just as Opeth welcomed many into its distressed arms over the years, the Swedes again deliver on the promise that great music always tells a compelling story – this time with growls.

Opeth’s fourteenth album was written by Åkerfeldt, with lyrics conferred with Klara Rönnqvist Fors (The Heard, ex-Crucified Barbara). The Last Will And Testament was co-produced by Åkerfeldt and Stefan Boman (Ghost, The Hellacopters), engineered by Boman, Joe Jones (Killing Joke, Robert Plant), and Opeth, with Boman, Åkerfeldt, and the rest of Opeth mixing at Atlantis and Hammerthorpe Studios in Stockholm. Strings were arranged by Åkerfeldt and returning prog friend Dave Stewart (Egg, Khan) and conducted by Stewart at Angel Studios in London. Visual artist Travis Smith returns to the fold, crafting his 11th cover, a haunting “photograph” reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick’s infamous “Overlook Hotel” photograph. Unrepentantly flying the flag for Classic British Metal since the release of their 1981 Blitzkrieg/Buried Alive demo, Blitzkrieg were a pivotal influence on countless heavy metal bands for decades to come: most notably, Metallica, who released a cover of the band’s eponymous track “Blitzkrieg” both on the Garage Inc compilation album, and as a B-side on their 1984 single “Creeping Death”.
Formed in Leicester in late 1980 by lead vocalist Brian Ross (who remains at the helm of the band to this day), the band would take a four-year hiatus when Ross left to join NWOBHM legends Satan, recording their classic album Court In The Act (Roadrunner) and touring extensively, before reuniting with bassist Mick Moore to form Avenger.
1985 saw the release of Blitzkrieg’s long-awaited debut album A Time Of Changes on legendary British label Neat Records, which remains a cult classic to this day. Further success would follow with 1991’s Ten Years Of Blitzkrieg (Roadrunner) and a three-album deal in 1995 with Neat Records.
The band continued to champion classic metal throughout the turbulent 2000s, with albums like 2002’s Absolute Power (Hellion) and 2007’s Theatre Of The Damned (Armageddon), the latter of which was co-produced by Saxon frontman Biff Byford after Blitzkrieg opened for Saxon on their UK tour the year prior. All the while, the band remained a mainstay on the international festival circuit, with appearances at Wacken, Headbangers Open Air, Keep It True, Hard Rock Hell and countless others, along with regular tours in four continents.
Returning from a hiatus in the wake of their critically acclaimed releases Back From Hell and Judge Not, Blitzkrieg are as vital, powerful and ferocious as the day they were founded over 40 years ago. Long time members Alan Ross (son of Brian Ross) and powerhouse drummer Matt Graham are joined by bassist Liam Ferguson and virtuoso guitarist and producer Nick Jennison. Their new album “Blitzkrieg” is set for release in summer 2024 via Mighty Music, and if early previews are to be believed, is their best work since 1985.

The original Peace Out dates were announced in May 2023, but the trek faltered after just three shows when Steven Tyler sustained damage to his vocal cords, leading to the cancellation of six further dates.
Two weeks later the band postponed the rest of the tour when Tyler’s injury was discovered to be more serious than initially thought, and that he’d fractured his larynx and would require a significant period of rest and recuperation. The shows were rescheduled in April this year, a month before Tyler successfully returned to the stage, guesting with the Black Crowes in London.
Aerosmith’s last show was at the UBS Arena in Elmont, NY, on September 9 last year.

When Aerosmith walked off the stage at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York on Sept. 9, 2023, they had no idea their touring life had just come to an end.
The band had only just launched their Peace Out farewell tour, a goodbye trek which started a week earlier on Sept. 2 in Philadelphia. That night’s performance was roundly praised, with many observers noting how strong the group sounded. A second show, Sept. 6 in Pittsburgh, offered more of the same, further building the excitement surrounding Aerosmith’s tour.
The New York show started much like the others – a video history of the band played on the big screens before Steven Tyler and company emerged from underneath the stage and launched into their opening number, “Back in the Saddle.”

The second song of the night was a cover, as Aerosmith delivered their version of the Rufus Thomas song “Walking the Dog” for the first time on the tour (they originally covered the track on their 1977 LP Draw the Line).
The hits would keep on coming from there. The soaring power of “Livin’ on the Edge” gave way to the gradual build of “Janie’s Got a Gun.” Power ballads such as “Cryin’” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” were sprinkled through the night, offering a change of pace from more raucous tunes like “Love in an Elevator” and “Sweet Emotion.”

How Did Aerosmith’s Final Concert End?
After briefly exiting the stage following their sixteenth song of the night, “Toys in the Attic,” Aerosmith returned for an encore. The band rocked through renditions of two of their biggest hits, “Dream On” and “Walk This Way,” the latter of which featured a piece of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” mixed in for good measure.
As fate would have it, the final song of the night wasn’t even an Aerosmith track. The group performed “Happy Birthday to You” and brought out a giant chocolate cake to celebrate guitarist Joe Perry, whose 73rd birthday was the following day.

At the time, Aerosmtih seemed poised for further triumphs throughout their Peace Out tour, yet something happened during the show at UBS Arena. Though it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when, Tyler’s voice was seriously injured during the set. Two days later, he’d announce to the world that he’d “sustained vocal cord damage” which “led to subsequent bleeding.” Tyler was initially told to rest for 30 days, but when his voice still hadn’t healed, the entire farewell tour was pushed into 2024.
Since that Sept. 9 show, Tyler and his medical team have worked tirelessly to get one of the most distinctive voices in rock history back in shape. For a long time, it seemed like the injury would simply be a bump in the road, a footnote in the tale of Aerosmith’s grand farewell. A surprise appearance at a Black Crowes concert in May marked Tyler’s return to the stage, and rescheduled tour dates gave fans everywhere the impression that Aerosmith was ready to rock once more.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. On Aug. 2, 2024 – roughly six weeks before they were scheduled to return to touring – Aerosmith announced they would retire from the road for good.
“Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other,” the band noted in their message to fans. “We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.”
The announcement brought to a close Aerosmith’s powerful history of performances spanning more than 50 years. Still, though the Bad Boys from Boston may not have ended things in the way they’d hoped, their sudden retirement did nothing to dampen a legacy which remains eternal.

The band also noted that tickets purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded. All other refunds will be available at point of purchase.
It’s unclear what, if anything, Aerosmith has planned next. The band has not released an album since 2012’s Music From Another Dimension!, but guitarist Joe Perry recently told Rock Candy magazine that new music was “definitely a possibility, but at the minute we’re looking at the set for the tour and the songs we can play. He added: “We’re also remixing some of the early stuff and finding some interesting outtakes, so it’ll be fun to look at that stuff.”
Perry also expressed his gratitude for every opportunity to play at this stage — comments that sound especially prescient in light of Aerosmith’s retirement from the road. “The issue with Steven shows you that freak things can happen,” he said. “You just don’t know, so that’s why every night that I go on, I play like it’s the last show.”

“Well…Sammy’s show in NJ this past Saturday was AMAZING!!
“I had some fantastic luck with very cool security people. Even though I was close (9th row), they let me get RIGHT UP FRONT when I told them about my EVH stripes towel. I wanted to give it to Sammy in hopes he’d show it off – and he did!
“Before the show, I had many people coming up to me asking where the hell I got it, and people who KNEW where I got it. I probably threw down the website name a dozen times that night… but I seemed to be the only guy who had one!
“When Sammy held up that EVH red, black & white towel, the place went INSANE! My ears are STILL ringing a bit, and the high of the show is still lingering for sure! So glad the Eddie Van Halen Stripes were flown so proudly!!”
