Soundgarden, Oasis, The White Stripes and Joy Division/New Order have been selected for the longlist of artists eligible for inclusion into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame this year.

They’re joined on the 14-strong list of nominees by Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Billy Idol, Joe Cocker, Mariah Carey, OutKast, Cindy Lauper, Phish and more.

Artists become eligible for nomination into the ‘prestigious’ institution 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording.

Fans are now invited to cast their votes for the acts they deem most worthy of inclusion, with the shortlist of nominees to be revealed in April.

On this day last year, Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher expressed his sentiments towards the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when the Manchester band were nominated, writing on X, “Fuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS LG x.” When a follower suggested that the singer is already keeping “rock n roll alive”, the singer responded, “You know it I don’t need some wank award by some geriatric in a cowboy hat.”

In October, Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner and Peter Frampton were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at the awards ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio.

On the night, Ozzy kept his speech mercifully short.

Speaking from a throne adorned by a vast pair of bat wings, the Prince Of Darkness said, “Well, here we are. You know what? I can’t believe I’m here myself. Let me get the thank yous out of the way, because I’m not going to bore you with a long, drawn-out fucking monologue. I’d like to thank whoever voted me into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for my solo work. A great thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

“I think this is all happening out of necessity. The boys and I have expressed our need to play music again.” Letlive announce 2025 reunion tour with US, UK, Europe and Australia dates

Post-hardcore luminaries Letlive have announced their first live tour since January 2017.

The California outfit, fronted by Fever 333 mainman Jason Aalon Butler, have reunited to tour North America, Europe, the UK and Australia from June to November.

The shows include numerous festival performances, namely 2000 Trees in the UK, Impericon in Germany, Jera Open Air in the Netherlands, and Vans Warped Tour and Louder Than Life in the USA. They join the band’s previously announced set at When We Were Young in Las Vegas on October 18.

See all announced dates below.

Joining Butler in the reactivated Letlive are returning guitarists Jean Nascimento and Jeff Sahyoun, as well as new members Skyler Acord on bass and Sage Webber on drums. The band say fans should expect a setlist that “spans their celebrated discography”, which started with 2005 debut Speak Like You Talk to and seemingly concluded with 2016’s If I’m The Devil….

Butler comments: “I think this is all happening out of necessity. The boys and I have expressed our need to play Letlive music again based on where we are in our lives individually and how the collective spiritual theme between us has aligned.

“Also, if you’ll allow me to be presumptuous – I believe the world could use the love. Besides, soul punx never dies.”

Nascimento adds: “We came from a time of building an audience in grassroots venues. I am grateful to be able to enter a new chapter of Letlive, where our life experiences in the past few years can offer a new and exciting experience for our fans.”

Sahyoun says: “Letlive represents a part of my life that refuses to be silenced. Coming back to it feels like fulfilling a calling – one that reminds me of why I ever started all of this in the first place.”

Letlive originally formed in 2002 and found critical acclaim with their energetic live performances and genre-smashing music. They announced their split in April 2017, saying, “A divergence in views and aims has developed within the camp.”

The build-up to Letlive’s return started last April, when they announced their intention to give fans the farewell tour they never got. “We shouldn’t have left you without one final dope beat to step to. Two-thousand and twenty-five,” they wrote on social media.

Whether Letlive will make new music together remains to be seen.

INXS’ ‘Listen Like Thieves’ Celebrates 40 Years With Expanded Set

INXS will release a 40th-anniversary expanded Deluxe Edition of their breakthrough album Listen Like Thieves in the spring.

The three-CD set – which includes a new mix of the album by Giles Martin and Paul Hicks, demos, outtakes, and a London concert from 1986 – will be released on May 9. You can see the track listing below.

Listen Like Thieves was INXS’ fifth album, released in October 1985. The record became the Australian band’s biggest U.S. LP at that time, peaking at No. 11, thanks to the singles “What You Need” (a Top 5 hit), “This Time” and the title track. It was a double-platinum seller in the States, paving the way for 1987’s Kick, one of the biggest albums of the ’80s and the group’s only No. 1.

“We decided to write the album in a rehearsal situation; everybody had ideas in their heads, but not many of the songs were written before we rehearsed, and we wrote one song in the studio,” singer Michael Hutchence told Rolling Stone upon the album’s release.

“It wasn’t the kind of album where you put tracks down bit by bit. We’ve done the album like a live show, and what is there is there. We want to present this record as a band – the idea of six people playing together and using traditional sounds.”

What Is on the Deluxe Edition of INXS’ ‘Listen Like Thieves’?

The “40th-Anniversary Deluxe Edition” of INXS’ Listen Like Thieves features a 2025 mix of the album by Martin and Hicks, who’ve worked on overhauling the Beatles‘ catalog over the past several years, on the first disc. “It’s been such an honor to work on this pivotal album from INXS’ career,” Martin noted in a press release announcing the upcoming set. “It’s a collection of recordings masterly produced by Chris Thomas, which helped the band define their own style and reach a massive global audience. It’s an iconic rock album of its age.”

The second CD includes demos for album songs “Kiss the Dirt,” “This Time,” “Shine Like It Does” and others, alternate takes of album tracks such as “Good and Bad Times” and “Red Red Sun,” and studio dialogue and jams from the recording sessions.

The third disc unearths a concert recorded by the BBC at London’s Royal Albert Hall on June 24, 1986, which includes songs from Listen Like Thieves and earlier material.

INXS Albums Ranked

Like many bands that came of age during new wave’s peak years, INXS didn’t stick around in one place for too long.

As you’ll see in the below list of INXS Albums Ranked, the group spent half a decade before it finally settled on the glossy mix of pop, rock and dance music that made them one of the world’s biggest bands by the end of the ’80s.

While it took some time to get there, the Australian sextet had some of the pieces in place almost from the start, like singer Michael Hutchence‘s swaggering Mick Jagger vocal style and the Farriss brothers’ classic rock ‘n’ roll crunch filtered through more modern styles.

READ MORE: When INXS Embraced a New Direction on ‘Welcome to Wherever You Are’

By the time they nailed down the bigger, splashier productions that were hallmarks of their best records, INXS was already a tight-performing unit. All they needed was someone to guide them, and with producers Nile Rodgers and, especially, Chris Thomas, they made a series of hit albums that helped define their sound in the latter part of the ’80s.

Once they reached their stride, they stuck around in similar territory for an album or two before stripping back to meet the demands of the burgeoning alternative nation. They eventually returned to their classic sound – groove-stuffed pop music seasoned with rock guitars and dance rhythms – in the mid-’90s. But in November 1997, Hutchence took his own life, effectively ending INXS’ run.

Even though they made one more record with a new singer, the band never recovered from the death of its magnetic frontman. But they briefly carved out a little corner of the music world with some of the era’s most distinctive records.

Steely Dan emerged from the creative partnership of Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker, who met at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, in 1967. Their mutual appreciation for jazz, rock, and complex lyricism laid the foundation for a collaboration that would redefine 1970s rock music. The duo’s early endeavors involved songwriting and performing in various bands, but it was their move to Los Angeles in the early 1970s that catalyzed the formation of Steely Dan. There, they worked as staff songwriters for ABC/Dunhill Records before deciding to perform their own material, leading to the creation of their debut album.

In 1972, Steely Dan released “Can’t Buy a Thrill,” introducing the world to their sophisticated blend of rock and jazz. The album featured hit singles like “Do It Again” and “Reelin’ in the Years,” which showcased their knack for catchy melodies intertwined with intricate musical arrangements. The success of this debut established Steely Dan as a distinctive voice in the music industry.

Over the next decade, Steely Dan released a series of critically acclaimed albums: “Countdown to Ecstasy” (1973), “Pretzel Logic” (1974), “Katy Lied” (1975), “The Royal Scam” (1976), “Aja” (1977), and “Gaucho” (1980). Each album demonstrated their evolution towards more complex compositions and polished production. Notable tracks from this era include “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,” “Peg,” and “Deacon Blues.” Their meticulous attention to detail and preference for working with top-tier session musicians became a hallmark of their sound.

Despite their studio success, Steely Dan ceased touring in 1974, opting to focus exclusively on recording. This decision led to a rotating cast of session musicians contributing to their albums, further refining their sophisticated sound. However, after the release of “Gaucho,” the duo disbanded in 1981, with Becker and Fagen pursuing individual projects.

The 1990s saw a resurgence of Steely Dan as Becker and Fagen reunited for live performances and new recordings. Their 2000 album “Two Against Nature” earned them four Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, reaffirming their enduring appeal and musical prowess. They followed up with “Everything Must Go” in 2003, which, while not as commercially successful, was praised for its musicianship.

Throughout their career, Steely Dan garnered numerous accolades, including an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Their music is celebrated for its sophisticated harmonies, cryptic lyrics, and seamless fusion of jazz, rock, and pop elements. Fans and critics alike admire their commitment to excellence and their influence on contemporary music.

Beyond their work with Steely Dan, both Fagen and Becker engaged in solo projects and collaborations. Fagen released solo albums such as “The Nightfly” (1982) and “Morph the Cat” (2006), exploring themes ranging from nostalgia to existential musings. Becker’s solo efforts, including “11 Tracks of Whack” (1994), showcased his distinctive guitar work and songwriting abilities.

Wolf Alice Songs

Feature Photo: Christian Bertrand / Shutterstock.com

Wolf Alice, formed in London in 2010, has carved out a distinctive space in the modern rock landscape with their genre-blending sound and deeply evocative lyrics. The band initially started as a duo consisting of Ellie Rowsell (vocals, guitar) and Joff Oddie (guitar), who began their musical journey by performing acoustic sets. They later expanded to include Theo Ellis (bass) and Joel Amey (drums), solidifying the lineup that would go on to achieve widespread acclaim. Known for their versatility, Wolf Alice seamlessly merges elements of grunge, folk, shoegaze, and electronic music into their unique sonic identity.

The band’s breakthrough came with their 2013 debut EP, Blush, which earned them early recognition and set the stage for their critically acclaimed first full-length album, My Love Is Cool (2015). Featuring standout tracks such as “Bros” and “Moaning Lisa Smile,” the album showcased their ability to shift effortlessly between dreamy, melodic tracks and raw, high-energy anthems. My Love Is Cool was both a critical and commercial success, peaking at number two on the UK Albums Chart and earning a Grammy nomination for “Moaning Lisa Smile” in the Best Rock Performance category.

Building on this momentum, Wolf Alice released their sophomore album, Visions of a Life, in 2017, which solidified their reputation as one of the most innovative bands of their generation. Tracks like “Don’t Delete the Kisses” and “Yuk Foo” demonstrated their creative range, with lyrics that explored themes of love, identity, and rebellion. The album won the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2018, cementing their status as a force in British music and elevating their international profile.

In 2021, the band released Blue Weekend, their third studio album, to widespread acclaim. Featuring singles such as “How Can I Make It OK?” and “The Last Man on Earth,” the album delved into themes of vulnerability and self-reflection, resonating with both critics and fans. Blue Weekend debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and received multiple nominations at the Brit Awards, further solidifying Wolf Alice’s place as one of the most important bands of their era.

Throughout their career, Wolf Alice has earned numerous accolades, including NME Awards for Best Live Band and Best Track. Their ability to deliver electrifying live performances has made them a festival favorite, with notable appearances at Glastonbury, Coachella, and Reading and Leeds. Their tours are characterized by an intense energy and an ability to connect with audiences on a deeply emotional level.

The field of 14 nominees is filled out by six artists who have been nominated but not inducted in recent years. Mariah Carey and Oasis were both nominated last year, while Joy Division / New Order, Cyndi Lauper, the White Stripes and Soundgarden were most recently nominated in 2023. (Soundgarden was also nominated in 2020.)

Paul McCartney Announces Last-Minute New York Club Show

Paul McCartney has announced a last-minute show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom taking place tonight — and, shocker, it’s already sold out.

The former Beatle will rock the 600-capacity club at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 5. Tickets were available exclusively at the Bowery Ballroom box office, with none sold online. No tickets will be available at the door, so fans are discouraged from lining up outside the venue unless they’ve already secured a ticket.

The Bowery Ballroom is a far cry from the site of McCartney’s most recent shows. The 82-year-old rocker wrapped the latest leg of his Got Back tour in December with two consecutive performances at London’s O2 Arena. The Got Back trek launched in 2022 and has taken McCartney to arenas and stadiums across North America, South America, Europe and Australia.

Is a New Paul McCartney Album Coming Soon?

At the moment, McCartney’s Bowery Ballroom show appears to just be a fun, surprise one-off gig. But artists historically pull these types of stunts to kick off a promotional cycle — and there’s reason to believe McCartney has some new music up his sleeve.

When asked about his New Year’s resolutions in a December 2024 fan Q&A on his website, McCartney said: “Here’s one: finish an album! I’ve been working on a lot of songs, and have had to put it to the side because of the tour. So, I’m hoping to get back into that and finish up a lot of these songs. So, how’s about that? ‘My New Year’s resolution is to finish a new album!'”

McCartney released his last studio album, McCartney III, in December 2020. He released One Hand Clapping, the Wings live-in-studio album that had been shelved for nearly 50 years, in June 2024. A documentary film of the same name hit theaters in September.

Peter Frampton has tacked on nine more stops beginning in June as his Let’s Do It Again! tour continues to grow. See a complete list of cities and 2025 dates below.

He hits the road next month. Tickets for the new shows will be available at 10AM local time on Friday, Feb. 14. Find more information on the tour and tickets at Frampton’s official website.

Frampton announced 10 spring concerts in January. He’d briefly considered farewell dates following his 2019 diagnosis with inclusion body myositis, a degenerative disease of the muscles. Frampton’s subsequent tours have been appropriately named, including the Never Say Never, Never EVER Say Never tour and Positively Thankful tour.
